This slogan is what we are all about at Southeastern! We go to the nations because Jesus came for us. He came to reconcile us to God and make a way for us to spend eternity with Him. We go because we want others to be reconciled to God as well.
We also go in obedience to Christ’s command. In Matthew 28:19-20 it says, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you.” The Bible is clear. If we are followers of Christ we must obey God and make disciples of all nations, baptize them, and teach them. We must go.
As the women’s ministry coordinator on campus at Southeastern, one of the privileges I have is to help train and equip female students and student wives to fulfill the Great Commission. It brings me great joy to see these women go to the nations in our surrounding communities (Wake Forest, Raleigh, Durham), various states (San Diego, New York, Columbus), and around the world (India, London, Canada, Central Asia, Africa) to just name a few!
I am also a mom. A mom who taught her children from an early age to have a heart for the nations and to live obediently to the commands of Christ. A mom who has just recently dropped her oldest child off at the airport to spend six weeks of her summer serving with the North American Mission Board in Montreal, Canada.
Seeing your child follow the Lord and have a desire to see others come to know Him is very rewarding for a Christian parent. However, I am also human. My flesh fights against this excitement. You see, because this mother’s heart aches in her absence. As she goes, I will actually miss her.
However, my prayer is that my heart would long after seeing the nations come to Christ MORE THAN I would ever long for the presence of my own precious child. Because as a mother, I cannot imagine sacrificing my child for anyone. BUT GOD – because of his love for us – gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. And that is why we go!
